Cows for Christ

Cows for Christ was started a few years ago when Charles Garst talked with a group of individuals from Watson and Rock Port about a project that would actually raise beef to supply area Food Pantries. The decision was made to purchase some cows and find local cattle producers that would "adopt" these cows and place them in their herds. After the cows had reached an appropriate size they were sent to slaughter for the beef that was then placed into a designated pantry. In the past Inter-Serv in St. Joseph, Open Door Mission in Omaha and the Community Food Pantry in Rock Port have all received beef from this project.

Currently there are about seven "adopted" cows in area herds that are being raised for this project. The Board that directs this project is always looking for other area cattle producers to "adopt" a cow or individuals who might be willing to help support a cow in this project. Anyone who is interested in this project can contact any Board Member. The Board of Directors includes Jim Clodfelter, Charles Garst, Russell Herron, Ken Lucas & Virgil Watts.
